Gaprindashvili Is Half Point behind Leader

 

Ludmila Saunina of Russia (2274) is leading women’s tournament of World Senior Chess Championship with 4.5 points. No.1 seed Nona Gaprindashvili is half point behind the leader.

Gaprindashvili defeated Swietlana Miednikova of Russia (2165) with white pieces in the fifth round. Nino Melashvili (2106) and Tamar Khmiadashvili (2166) played draw against each other. Khmiadashvili is in the sixth place with 3.5 points. Melashvili has the same points and is in the 9th place.

Sunday is a day off at World Senior Championship. On Monday, Gaprindashvili will play against leader Saunina, Khmiadashvili – against Valentina Kozlovskaya of Russia (2281) and Melashvili – against Thipsay of India (2152).

Eleven rounds will be held at the tournament and the prize money is 15 000 EUR. 12 000 EUR is for men’s tournament and 3 000 EUR for women’s tournament. If man winner gets 2 100 EUR, woman winner has to be satisfied with 800 EUR.
