Nona Gaphrindashvili (2362) playing with black pieces drew with Russian Galina Strutinskaia (2269) and kept the first place among women and she is on the 9th place among other participants at European Senior Chess Championship.
Gaphrindashvili gathered 5.5 points and she is 1.5 point behind Romanian leader of this tournament Mihai Suba (2465). Gaphrindashvili cannot fight for champion’s title but in case of success next round against Italian Antonio Rosini (2233) she has chance of being in top 5.
By the way Rosini won over another Georgian participant Tamar Khmiadashvili in the last round (2149), as a result Khmiadashvili retreated to the 32nd place with 4.5 points. She was keeping the 5th place among women. In the last round Khmiadashvili playing with black pieces plays against Italian Paolo Colombo (2130).
9 rounds will be held at European Senior Chess Championship and it will end up on April 14. Prize money of the tournament is 10 350 EUR. Man winner will gain 1700 EUR and woman winner – 700 EUR.
