Gabelia Resigned

Otar Gabelia, former head coach of Georgian U-21 team, stated about his resignation. According to him, two losses to Spain (2:7 in Kutaisi, 0:2 in Lugo) were the reason of it.

Otar Gabelia: “I would have continued working but I am a different person. I did not hope to beat Spain but I could not tell it to players. That is why, I stated that Spain would lose. Perhaps, I made mistake while choosing the staff. These boys are 21 years old and they must think only about football. I have my own personality and when you receive seven goals…

I am sure Spanish U-21 team will win over some national teams – Slovakia, Montenegro. I am sure we would have taken the second place but receiving seven goals…”.

Domenti Sichinava, president of Georgian Football Federation, mentioned at the press conference that he found out the decision of Gabelia the previous day. Candidature of the youth team is not known yet. Though, Sichinava stated that Georgian specialist would work on the position of Gabelia.

Domenti Sichinava: “I met Mr. Otar yesterday evening and we talked for 3 hours. Today we continued talking about this issue. I want to thank him for making this decision. If we had not received seven goals, he would have made this decision. Mr. Otar thought that he must leave the team. This man will not leave football. I am always for appointing Georgian coaches. Soon, we will present coach who will head the team in the match against Switzerland.

Besides that, Sichinava mentioned that candidatures of Kakha Tskhadadze and Giorgi Devdariani were not discussed:

“I do not know about the candidature of Kakha Tskhadadze. I heard it for the first time. Devdariani has held very important matches and he will head U-19 team next round. We will discuss all candidatures”.
