Women's International Tennis Tournament (prize money is 25 000 USD) is held in Telavi. Tournament started with qualifying round where tennis players will fight for 8 places of the main wrap.
Georgia had the most representatives in the qualifying round. So, we watched several Georgian matches in the first round. Only those Georgians went through the second round who played against compatriots.
Barbare Eristavi beat Lana Rostiashili 6:4, 6:1 and in the second round she will play against No.1 seed Paula Kania of Poland.
Tamar Chalaganidze beat Teona Tatishvili 6:3, 6:4 and now she will play against Viktoria Yemelianova (rating 2) of Belarus. Mariam Kurasbediani who rested on the first day will play against No.3 seed Sofia Susana of Hungary.
Armenian Anu Amiragyan beat Babilina Machaidze 0:6, 0:6. Tamar Komakhidze will start participation from the second round and she will play against Russian Anna Rapoport (No.5 seed).
Nino Sujashvili defeated Mariam Skhirtladze 6:2, 6:2 and No.6 seed Natela Dzalamidze who is competing in the name of Russia will be her next opponent. Ekaterina Tsiklauri is also participating in the name of Russia. She beat Ani Gokvadze 6:2, 7:6 (7:2). Now she will play against Azerbaijani Kamila Abdukadirov who beat Marian Takniashvili 6:2, 6:2.
Tamar Tskhakaia who beat Irina Toidze (6:1, 6:4) will play against Belarusian Vladislava Kuzmenkova (No.7 seed).
Except Georgian number 1 tennis player Anna Tatishvili (she is No.4 seed at Albukerk tournament), all famous Georgian tennis players are competing in Telavi International Tournament. From the hosts Oksana Kalashnikova, Maka Chakhnashvili, Tatia Mikadze, Sopho Shapatava, Manana Shapakidze, Ekaterine Gorgodze, Ana Jikia and Diana Davitaia will play in the main wrap.
Tournament which will finish on September 26, is held by Telavi Municipality and Georgian National Olympic Committee. "Liberty Bank" and mineral water "Borjomi" are sponsors of the tournament.
