One day and a new season of judo will start will Almaty Masters. 16-16 best judokas of each weight class will participate in the most prestigious tournament. Other judokas will also wrestle on tatami. But according to the preliminary information, this exception will be for Top 20 judokas and only in case if someone will not be able to wrestle because of injury.
Only four Georgian judokas got in Masters quota: Amiran Papinashvili who is in the 5th place in 60 kg, Varlam Liparteliani (90 kg) – in the 12th place, Levan Zhorzholiani and Irakli Tsirekidze (both 100 kg) – in the 13th and 14th places. Tsirekidze will not be able to wrestle in Kazakhstan because of a rib injury which he got at Tokyo Grand Slam one month ago.
Prize money of World Masters is 200 000 USD but rating points are more important for judokas. Champion will earn 400 points, finalist – 280 points, bronze medal winner – 160 and fifth-placed – 80.
Japanese and Russian teams will have great number of participants. They will have 13-13 sportsmen, Brazil and Mongolia – 8-8, Kazakhstan – 7, Azerbaijan – 6.
Georgian team does not have to worry about 60, 90 and 100 kg. Judokas of Peter Seisenbacher have almost guaranteed London licences. But there is a difficult situation in other 4 weight classes. Avtandil Chrikishvili (81 kg) is in the 29th place, Zviad Khanjaliashvili (+100 kg) – in the 23rd place. Shalva Kardava (66 kg) is in the 42nd place in world ranking and Nugzar Tatalashvili (73 kg) – in the 31st place.
