Failure at the Last Moment

Georgian Basketball U-20 Team held another match in Holland. In the first match Georgians lost with Austrian U-20 Team of division A– 82:89. Head coach of Georgian team discussed details in telephone conversation.
Davit Ustiashvili: “It was really very tense and interesting match. First of all I want to say that our rival was quite strong team. Last year Austria won division B and advanced in Elite. This team arrived in Holland yesterday and we were first rivals fro them. Our rival was not as tired as Georgian team. Austrians hosted international sparring tournament and gained solid experience with German, Slovenian and Polish peers.
The match was equal. At the beginning we were loosing with 7-8 points, but then we shortened point difference – 38:40. We played quite convincingly in the third quarter and gained advantages.  We advanced with 7 points but in the last quarter our rival equalized. At the last moment we owned the ball but we made a mistake and we started tactic penalties. Unfortunately Austrians scored all tactic penalties and advanced with 7 points.
In spite of failure we are satisfied with out playing. Failure at the last moment with such strong rival is not shameful. Guys did their best. I noticed several things while playing and it will be improved.  We have to shorten our mistakes and we have to use more aggressiveness while attacking.
Statistics was not counted, but as usual Tornike Shengelia scored the most points. He was playing convincingly. Others also played very well and kept chance of victory with such strong rival till the end of the match. On July 3, in the afternoon we play against Dutch U-23 Team. They have not held any matches in this tournament and we are their first rival. They are not tired and they are 3 years elder. I do not pay attention to a final result of this match. I want to check every player to know their possibilities”.
The upcoming match is the last for Georgians and after that they will return in Georgia.
