On February 19-20, Batumi hosted Georgian Youth Freestyle Wrestling Championship. 207 sportsmen participated in the championship. On Saturday, winners were found out in 50, 55, 60 and 66 kg. On Sunday, wrestlers of 74, 84, 96 and 120 kg wrestled on mat.
Four titled members of youth team did not compete in the tournament. Davit Khutsishvili (74 kg) and Giorgi Sakandelidze (120 kg) could not wrestle because of their age. Vladimir Khinchegashvili (55 kg) and Davit Marsagishvili (84 kg) rested because they are candidates of the main team.
Nugzar Skhireli, head coach of youth team, mentioned in the interview with “World Sport” that Khinchegashvili and Marsagishvili had guaranteed wrestling at European Youth Championship. Other participants of would be found out after Batumi Championship. So, the following wrestlers will compete in European Championship which will take place in Serbia at the end of June: Levan Rochikashvili (50 kg), Tengiz Chochishvili (60 kg), Davit Tlashadze (66 kg), Beka Petriashvili (74 kg), Tevdore Ebanoidze (96 kg) and Giorgi Aslanishvili (120 kg). Lasha Lomtadze became champion of Georgia in 55 kg, Sandro Aminashvili became champion in 84 kg. Lomtadze beat Lasha Talakhadze who is member of youth team and current prize winner and European and world. Talakhadze wrestled in 50 kg before that.
Two girls participated in Georgian Championship. Shorena Sharadze (Adjara) and Ani Akopov (Gori) wrestled against each other in 63 kg. Sharadze was judoka before that but now she is competing in wrestling and achieved her first success in Batumi.
