European Championship Ended Classically


 

On August 7-8 Greco-Roman style wrestlers will finish wrestling at cadet wrestler European Championship in Sarajevo. 6-day tournament’s first 3-4 days were for free style wrestlers and then champion-prizewinners in girls’ team were found out. It is true, that the only member of Georgian Team Ana Akofova (65 kg) could not manage to win the 3th place, but in such occasion more important is that Georgian Team has representative in woman style.

Davit Pogosyan is head coach of woman wrestlers. In Gori, former member of Georgian Team established girls’ team and gave a chance many interested juniors to involve in this sport in a short time. Akofova was one of the first among them and she is also the first who participated in high-standard tournament. At first round Ani wrestled against Katerina Fedarashka and lost. Soon she lost chance to wrestle in repechage, because Belarus did not go through final.
Today 41, 50, 58, 85 weight classes  will wrestle for medals in Greco-Roman style. Ednar Shavadze (42 kg), Shmagi Bolkvadze (50kg), Ramaz Surmanidze (58kg), Mate Beridze (69kg) and Robert Kobliashvili (85 kg) will represent Georgian Team. Tomorrow Murtaz Chabrava (46kg), Amiran Shavidze (54 kg), Firuz Tsulukidze (63kg), Lasha Gobadze (76kg) and Iakob Kajaia (100 kg) will wrestle in European Championship.
Last year Vaja Kraveishvili’s team won 1 golden, 4 silver, 1 bronze medals in European Championship. Firuz Tsulukidze became world champion but in 58 weight category. Shmagi Bolkvadze (42kg), Lasha Dolidze (76kg), Davit Chakvetadze (85kg) and Giorgi Khabashvili (100kg) were defeated in final and Amiran Shavadze (46kg) won bronze medal. This year Shavabdze will wrestle 2 weight class heavier.
