The third memorial tournament of Olympic champion Karen Asryan takes place in the city of Armenia, Jermuk. The tournament is held by Swiss system. 16 grand masters are among 64 participants.
15 000 USD is prize money of the tournament. The first place winner will take 3 000 USD. The best 15 chess players will take prizes. 3 best women chess players will win 800, 500 and 200 USD.
The last 9th round will be held on October 13 and the tournament will be officially closed.
Georgian delegation left for Jermuk. Koka Shanava (2566) is No.4 seed player at the tournament. Giorgi Bagaturov (2464, No.12 seed), Davit Magalashvili (2455, No.13 seed), Nazi Paikidze (2376, No.15 seed), Maia Lomineishvili (2355, No.17 seed), Sopho Gvetadze (2352, No.20 seed), Sopho Guramishvili (2343, No.22 seed) and Nino Imnadze (1764, No.61 seed) are participating in the tournament.
All Georgian chess players, except Imnadze, celebrated victory in the first round. Imnadze played draw with Armenian chess player.
Georgian, Russian and Armenian chess players are competing in the tournament. In the second round we will see Georgian duel - Sophiko Guramishvili will play against Konstantine Shanava.
