Dzagnidze is in Top Three in Beijing

 

 

Nana Dzagnidze (2516) leader of Georgian national chess team participated in rapid chess competition which was held under auspices of the World Intellectual Games in the capital of China, Beijing.
The tournament was held according to Swiss system among 16 participants, among men and women. Alexandra Kosteniuk (Russia, 2439) world ex-champion gained 6 points in 7 rounds and took the first place. Ekaterine Lahno (Ukraine, 2549), Nana Dzagnidze and Venzhyn Zhu (China, 2453) shared II-IV places with 4.5 points. According to additional points Georgian chess player took the third place.
Nana managed to beat French Almira Skripchenko (2468), Armenian Elina Danielyan (2497) and Elizabeth Paety (2457), played draw with Chinese Yifan Hou (2578), mentioned Zhu and Lahno and lost only one match with Kosteniuk.
As for men’s tournament, Chinese Vang Hao (2736) became champion with 5.5 points, Azerbaijani Vugar Gashimov (2757) took the second place with 5.5 points and American Gata Camsky (2732) gained 4.5 points and took the third place.
