Davit Kvirkvelia: "It Was no Use to Stay in "Rubin"

Because of losing place in the main staff of "Rubin" Kazan, Davit Kvirkvelia started playing in "Anzhi" Makhachkala on loan at the beginning of this year. After expiring contract with "Anzhi" in summer, a 30-year-old player returned to "Rubin" where he could not get in a 18-player list. It is natural, that he would think about leaving the club. Kvirkvelia confirmed this information in the conversation with "World Sport".
- Have you left "Rubin" yet?
- I have left "Rubin" and the management of the club did not offer me to extend the contract.
- What plans do you have?
- Yet, I have no variants where to play. My manager Mamuka Jugeli is working on it. Perhaps, it will be found out till January 10-15 when all clubs in Russia start preparation period.
- In the first half of Russian championship, you played for "Anzhi" Makhachkala on loan. Why did you return to "Rubin" after expiring the loan?
- I had one year contract with "Rubin" and I played in "Anzhi" for 6 months. I almost played in all matches of "Anzhi". I only missed matches against "Rubin" and "Amkar". I did not want to leave "Anzhi" but the clubs could not agree on the amount. In case of staying in "Anzhi", they must have paid money for other 6 months to "Rubin" and they did not want to do it.
- What was the reason of leaving "Rubin"?
- I went to "Anzhi" because of having playing practice and to get to Georgian national team. I spent three years in "Rubin". I was always playing in the first year but I could not play from the second year. That's why I asked head coach Kurban Berdiev to let me play for other club on loan and he agreed. If there had been talks about extending the contract, no one would have said - "I do not want to stay in "Rubin". On the other hand, there are many good players in the club and it was no use to stay there. I am not afraid of competition but I wanted to play more often.
- Lately, "Volga" Nizhny Novgorod became the most "Georgian" club of Russian Premier League. Was this club interested in you? Mamuka Jugeli is collaborating with this club...
- Omar Tetradze and many Georgians are in "Volga" but all coaches have their own strategy. I have not received suggestion from "Volga".
- What has changed after Temur Ketsbaia became head coach of the national team?
- First of all, aspiration has changed in the team. We held some matches well, some - badly but in any case, all players did their best. It did not have meaning whether it was friendly match or qualifying one. We will have to hold more difficult matches next year.
- Which match did the team hold badly from those 8 matches, coached by Ketsbaia?
- Perhaps, it was the match against Malta. Fans expected us to beat them with big difference. Though, all coaches prefer to play badly but to win match. There were some obstacles in that match - pitch, weather. Thanks to god we won.
- Perhaps, draw against Latvia was the most disappointing match.
- It is a pity that we lost two points at the last minutes. We were all disappointed.
- How can you estimate your playing in the national team in 2010?
- First of all, I want to thank Temur Ketsbaia who called me up for the national team when I did not have playing practice in the club. I think, I held first 2 matches normally. I am not satisfied with myselt in other matches. I am saying that because I know my possibilities. When you do not play in the club consistently, it is difficult to play well in the national team.
