Upon the time when FIBA Congress decision was made and we received information about it, “WorldSport” contacted David Ustiashvili straight away.

David Ustiashvili: FIBA was planning to increase a the number of participants from 16 to 24 after the 2011 European championship therefore we are very surprised about this decision.Right now I feel like I am in a dream.

- Did you contact federation or team headquarters?

- Certainly I did. How would I not congratulate this grateful news? To remind you, Igor Kokoshkov is working in NBA while GBF president Besik Liparteliani is on FIBA congress, which was held during the FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

- How satisfied you are with our teams’ performance in the qualifying stage?

- It was not really easy to win 5 out of 8 games in Division A. Since it happened so, I am happy with our team performance. If the luck would have been on our side, we would have qualified for the final tournament straight away.

- What exactly do you mean?

- Great Britain lost two games and won the same amount of game in overtime. In case they would have lost the third game, we would have qualified for the final stage, since we had a better goal difference compared to the British. Another one is that third placed Italy lost at home to Israel by 8 points while won by 7 in Israel. If in that match Italy would have dropped one more basket they would finish in the second position thanks to head to head matches. In this case we would have progressed through, since we have better goal difference with Italy (ed. rather than with Israel).

- Finally, how can you rate Georgia national team legionaries – Taurean Green and Quinton Hosley?

-  Green played well and the headquarters are satisfied. Hosley plays for one of the best Spanish team – “Juventud” and in case he would play badly nobody would have invited him. Hosley would definitely play in case somebody would have got injury in our team. We did not risk. Fortunately, nobody got injured so that is why Hosley did not manage to play. Green and Hosley will remain in the team. In Lithuania will travel whoever will play better in his team and will better show up in national squad.
