Goals of Life

There are some goals in career of the football players which they do not forget till the end of their lives. This article deals with the best goals of the Georgian legionaries. We will name the goals of two categories: 1. goals of special importance; 2. goals scored against grands.

Fortunately, one important Georgian goal was scored at the previous weekend: Vako Kazaishvili scored goal in “Ajax”-“Vitesse” match at the 90th minute and his team won 1:0 on “Amsterdam Arena”.

In September 1992 “Juventus” beat “Anorthosis” 6:1 in 1/32 final of UEFA Cup. Vladimer Gutsaev coached “Anorthosis” at that time. Temur Ketsbaia scored the only goal from “Anorthosis”. Angelo Peruzzi stood in the net. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNkoP181t1U

“Juventus” was a fantastic team and won UEFA Cup in that season. Roberto Baggio, Gianluca Vialli, Fabrizio Ravanelli, Andreas Moller, Antonio Conte, Dino Baggio and others shone in the team of Marcello Lippi. Vialli scored two goals in that match. Roberto Baggio, Antonio Conte, Moreno Torricelli and Moller also scored goals.

However, Ketsbaia scored more important goal: in 1996 when he played for “Newcastle”, he scored against “Croatia” Zagreb at the 120th minute in the group playoff of Champions League. “Newcastle” won 2:1 home and was losing 1:2 away. Overtime was ending up but Ketsbaia scored goal and his team made through to the group round of Champions League.

Shota Arveladze has score many goals but we will distinguish goals at UEFA Cup: in 1/16 final of UEFA Cup 1997 “Ajax” won 1:0 home and was losing 0:2 away when Arveladze scored goal and “Ajax” went through 1/8 final. Marcio Amoroso and Oliver Bierhoff played for “Udinese” that time.

In UEFA Cup 2006/2007 Arveladze scored two goals against “Sevilla” and “Alkmaar” won 2:1. Daniel Alves, Luis Fabiano, Jesus Navarro and others played for “Sevilla” that time. Shota scored goals at the 62nd and 90th minutes.

In that season “Alkmaar” beat “Newcastle” in 1/8 final. The club lost 2:4 away and won 2:0 home. Arveladze scored goals in those matches.

Shota scored against “Barcelona” as well but in a friendly match. It happened in 1999. “Ajax”-“Barcelona” finished 2:2 and Arveladze scored goal at the 26th minute. Rivaldo, Guardiola, Giovanni played for “Barca”.

Giorgi Kinkladze scored one important goal in Britain: his first goal in the British career – “City” had to win before the 9th round and hosted “Aston Villa”. Kinkladze scored goal at the 89th minute.

Zaza Janashia scored two goals in “Lokomotiv” Moscow in semifinal of UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. In 1998 he scored against “Stuttgart” at the 15th minute but the Germans won 2:1. “Stuttgart” won 1:0 in Moscow as well and made through to final where it lost to “Chelsea” 0:1.

In 1999 Janashia scored goal in semifinal of the last UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. “Lokomotiv” played “Lazio”. The first match took place in Moscow and finished 1:1. Janashia scored goal at the 62nd minute. Goal was not scored in Rome and “Lazio” went through the final where “Mallorca” of Hector Raul Cuper beat it 2:1.

Mikheil Ashvetia scored against “Inter” in the group round of Champions League 2003/2004. The Moscow club defeated “Nerazzuri” 3:0. Ashvetia scored goal at the 49th minute and the score became 2:0.

Giorgi Demetradze has scored 4 goals at the European tournaments but one was unforgettable: he scored goal against “Bayern” in the second group round of Champions League. The Kiev club won that match 2:0 but could not make through to ¼ final. Kakha Kaladze also scored goal against “Bayern”.

Kaladze… his goal against “Bayern” is worth mentioning but the goal in “Madonnina” was the most important. “Milan” won that match 1:0.

Goal of Levan Mchedlidze: in 2008 “Palermo” beat “Juventus” 2:1 in Turin and the 18-year-old Georgian forward scored goal at the 82nd minute.

Jano Ananidze scored goal at the last minute in “Basel”-“Spartak” match two years and five months ago. His goal was decisive and the Moscow club won 3:2. It was 1/16 final of Europa League. Ananidze scored a free kick.

Levan Kobiashvili has scored twice against Oliver Kahn. The first goal was a free kick when he played for “Freiburg” and the second one when he played for “Schalke”. Most from his 9 goals were scored in PSV. When will Georgians score such goals again?
