Young Georgian judoka Avtandil Chrikishvili finished season 2010 with 2 gold medals. Yesterday, he added a great victory, gained in the city of Morocco, Agadir, to the title of European Championship which he won in the city of Bulgaria, Samokov, last month. Georgian judoka beat Japanese opponents in the semifinal and final.
Chrikishvili held 6 matches. First he beat American Derek Wojcik by ippon within 1 minute and 19 seconds. Then he won over Ukrainian Denys Grygorenko and Slovenian Gasper Jerman by yukos. He beat Turkish Batuhan Efemgil within 2 minutes and 19 seconds. In the semifinal he defeated Jun Toyoda by yuko. And in the final he beat Yuichi Kitano by waza-ari.
Giorgi Mermanishvili wrestled in 81 kg. After beating Uzbek Davronbek Sattorov, Moroccan Amine Ahda Ahmed and Slovakian Arpad Szakacs by ippons, in the 1/4 final he lost against Hungarian Krisztian Toth by ippon and contined wrestling in repechage. He lost the first match against American Max Golembo and took the 7th place.
Archil Shinjikashvili (90 kg) needed one victory to stand on the 3rd step of the pedestal. He lost medal in the match against Hungarian Gabor Ver. Shinjikashvili started participation in the championship from the second circle and beat Kazakh Aituar Abdulov within 1 minute and 21 seconds. He won over Moroccan Taib Malki at the 4th minute. In the 1/4 final, he lost against Ukrainian Stanislav Retynskyy by ippon. Before wrestling against Gabor Ver, he beat French Alexandre Iddir within 2 minutes and 39 seconds.
Giorgi Nozadze wrestled in the same weight class. But he lost against Estonian Grigori Minaskin by ippon in the first circle.
Yesterday, Shorena Sharadze, only girl of Georgian team, started participation in the championship. She beat Australian Stevie Kelly within 2 minutes but lost against Croatian Andreja Dakovic.
On the last day of the championship, champions and prize winners among men and women will be found out in last two weight classes. Onise Bugadze, Giorgi Koberidze (both 100 kg), Ushangi Kokauri and Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia. Bulgarian Daniel Dichev will be the first opponent of Bugadze. Koberidze will wrestle against Lebanese Tarek Fahmi, Kokauri - against Moroccan Hosni Rhaffar and Matiashvili - against Romanian Daniel Natea.
