The authority of basketball club "Sokhumi" made several changes in the coaching staff.
The official web-site of the club reports the following:On March 31, according to the contract expired work period for Rimvydas Samulenas, who was “Sokhumi’s” head coach from 2011 November. The President and owner of BC “Sokhumi” Mr. Mindia Gulua and Mr. R. Samulenas reached a mutual agreement about that from 1st April 2012 Mr. Samulenas stop working as a head coach “Sokhumi”, because of the contract’s expiration. R. Samulenas and the management of the club ”Sokhumi” do not have any claims to each other.
The Club’s President Mr. M. Gulua send the thank you to R. Samulenas “For the collaboration in the club and wished him success in his future coaching work.” At his side, honoured coach of Lithuania Rimvydas Samulenas expressed “his impression to the management and the players of team for their cooperation, attention and a warm hospitality in Georgia and wished good luck to the team “Sokhumi”.”
From 2nd April as a head coach of BC “Sokhumi” runs Vaja Kvaratskhelia, the honoured coach of Georgia, who was a permanent mentor of this team in 1995-2010 and grown a generation of famous basketball players, who were and are acting in different age group national team of Georgia still. Before April 2012 he was as a first assistant coach of the club.
“Sokhumi” management decided that at this stage team’ mentor will be Vaja Kvaratskhelia, but it i9s possible that in future the head coach will be another person and V. Kvaratskhelia will step back as a first assistant.
