Bronze Start

 

Georgian youth Greco-Roman wrestling team won bronze medal at European Championship which started in the capital of Croatia, Zagreb, yesterday. On the first day of the tournament, four Georgians wrestled on the mat. Iakob Kajaia (96kg) got in Top 3. Kajaia started participation in the tournament from 1/8 final and beat Simonian of Armenia in two sets. He easily defeated Niberg of Sweden. Iakob could do nothing against Baldauf of Norway in semifinal and wrestled in repechage where he won Phix of Germany over and won bronze medal.

Davit Sanikian (50kg) and Piruz Tsulukidze (60kg) needed one victory to win bronze medals. Tsulukidze lost to Pikuza of Belarus and then wrestled in repechage. Before that, he defeated two strong opponents: Tagiev of Azerbaijan and Ebasar of Turkey. Davit lost to Dagi of Lithuania for the third place.

Sanikian lost to Karatas of Turkey in ¼ final of the main draw. In repechage he lost to Tsariuk of Israel. Lasha Gobadze (74kg) beat Bestenis of Latvia but lost to Kukhta of Ukraine.

Today champions and prize winners will be found out in 55, 66, 84 and 120kg. Ramaz Surmanidze (55kg), Giorgi Davitaia (66kg), Robert Kobliashvili (84kg) and Levan Arabuli (120kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
