Georgian freestyle wrestling team coached by Tamaz Bendianishvili started participation in European Championship which is underway in the city of Poland, Katowice. The Georgians gained bronze medal on the first day. Omar Gurjidze (69kg) showed himself. He defeated Muslim Evloev of Russia and George Bodisteanu of Romania. In semifinal, Omar lost to Engin Ismail of Bulgaria. In repechage the Georgian wrestler beat Aron Kanev of Italy and took the third place.

Irakli Mtsituri (85kg) needed one victory for standing on pedestal. He won over Quintin Millier of France. In ¼ final Irakli lost to future champion Sultan Rabadanov of Russia. In repechage the Georgian wrestler defeated Ildeniz Savran of Turkey and then lost to Erik Tiele of Germany.

Shmagi Todua (42kg) lost to Angel Georgiev of Bulgaria. Then, he lost to Mkhitar Grigorian of Armenia. Giorgi Lezhava (50kg) lost to Andrii Yatsenko of Ukraine. Eduard Nikolishvili (58kg) lost to Ilman Mukhtarov of France.

Today, other members of the Georgian team Giorgi Pasikashvili (46kg), Levan Murtskhvaladze (54kg), Tarzan Maisuradze (63kg), Giorgi Chkhartishvili (76kg) and Beka Kakhetelidze (100kg) will wrestle.

On July 19-20, girls will wrestle at European Championship and on July 21-22, Greco-Roman wrestlers will start participation. Vazha Kraveishvili, head coach of Georgian team, will take the following sportsmen to Poland:
