Davit Bejuashvili is elected for another four years as the president of Georgian Weightlifting Federation. The main issue on an agenda of the meeting held in the hall of Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs was the presidential election, where the current president beat the current vice-president and Olympic champion Kakhia Kakhiashvili. 52 delegates from 55 attended the meeting and 28 of them supported for Bejuashvili. Kakhi Kakhiashvili gained 23 votes.
Before the main issue of an agenda, the delegates listened to the summarizing speech of the general secretary of the federation Ramaz Gurgenidze, where was summarized the whole history of Georgian weightlifting. After the end of the report Rapael Chimishkyan Olympic champion made a speech and stated the following- if we think about success, we should not forget that the national team needs psychotherapist. Few people met his words seriously. Bejuashvili joked and said that such person was Kashpirovsky in the Soviet Union and Chimishkyan answered that it is not funny thing and deserves to be paid attention to.
Soon Rapael Chimishkyan went to the tribune and presented the audience the candidates of the election. Kakhi Kakhiashvili read the election program first.
“Weightlifting is my life, I used to spend whole my energy in it and it goes without saying that the same happens now. Of course I have a program, which will develop my favorite sport. One of the priorities is to make this kind of sport in provinces. We cannot succeed if we will not pay attention to the provinces. Providing new equipment to the sport gyms is very necessary. Besides this sportsmen should be encouraged and we have to give salaries to the champions of Georgia. I have been already working with the minister of Sports and Youth Affairs about this topic and I hope that I will settle it in the federation. I want also to agree with Rapael Chimishkyan. Psychologist is really problem for us. Having psychologist is very common all over the word”- stated Kakhiashvili and added that he waits for two medals at Olympic Games 2016.
He was asked some questions after the speech. The main questions were about regions and the candidate said that he had already visited regions and he would work intensively about this topic in the nearest future.
Davit bejuashvili underlined the unity of the federation and state the following:
“There are really a lot of problems, but solving them at once is really impossible. I cannot say that weightlifting was not paid attention before. Neither Giorgi Asanidze, not Kakhiashvili and governmental structures. Unfortunately, the budget of sport is decreased with 3 millions in 2013 and it might touch our federation too. I intensively work in the parliament about it. If you support me, I will again take care of the future of Georgian weighlifting”- stated Bejuashvili.
The president of the federation was asked the only question, about the main coach of the team. As it was found out, Vano Grikurovi’s contract expires at the end of December and some of the group of sportsmen do not want to continue working with him. Supposedly, these sportsmen were supporters of Bejuashvili, because if case of vicory of Kakhiashvili the chances of making a new contract with Grikurovi will be increased.
 Bejuashvili answered- choosing the main coach is not competency of the president and the board of the coaches should decide it. one of the coaches mentioned, Grikurovi is a very good specialist, but he lives in Poland and if he were in Georgia, he would not be able to help our national team.
Giorgi Asanidze responded him: “ Kakhi Kahiashvili, me and other strong sportsmen achieved success with help of Vano Grikurov. This man knows his job in a brilliant way and to my mind making some advice to him is not necessary. No matter where he is, he can create the best team even from Mars not from Poland. Swimming against the current will take us to the bad result”- stated Ananidze, whose brother died a couple of days ago, but in spite of this he attended to this meeting.
Afterward there was held close elections and the winner Bejuashvili thanked everyone and promised that cooperative working in the federation will go on. He asked Kakhiashvili for help in realizing his plan and Kakhiashvili accepted. In a word, elections passed without any accidents and noise. The main thing now is who will be a main coach of the team.
