Batsiashvili Beats Favorite

 

Traditional chess tournament devoted to the memory of Olympic Champion Karen Asrian which started in the resort of Armenia, Jermuk was very successful for Georgian chess players. Six of the players who participate in this tournament celebrated victory. The most distinguish success had Batsiashvili (2399) who won over favorite of the tournament Armenian Arman Pashikyan (2643). Pashikyan is 244 places ahead Batsiashvili in rating. Batsiashvili gained two points and she is on the12nd place among the leaders. According to additional points Konstantine Shanava (2539) is on the first place, Shota Azaladze (2423) is on the 9th place. As for Sophio Gvetadze (2330), who won over Armenian Artur Chibukhchyan (2500) with black pieces, is on the 12nd place.
Davit Maghalashvili (2469) is on the 17th place with 1.5 point and Bachana Morchiashvili (2394) is on the 47th place with 1.0 point.
In the third round one of the central matches is amonf Shanava and Azaladze. According to Swiss system the tournament includes 9 rounds.  Prize money is 15 000 $ and the winner will award with 3 000 $.
