Giorgi Brolashvili (60 kg), member of Georgian youth judo team, needed one victory to stand on the pedestal of World Championship. He won 4 from 6 matches at Agadir Championship and took the 5th place. Japanese judokas did not let Brolashvili stand on the pedestal. In the semifinal he lost against Toru Shishime by wara-azi. Then in the repechage final he lost against Kyosuke Nishioby ippon.
Before the semifinal Brolashvili beat Pakistani Muhammad Razi within 13 seconds, American George Trung - within a minute and 11 seconds by 2 waza-aris, Serb Predrag Nikolaevich by 3 yukos and Iranian Ghassem Nourizadeh by ippon.
Shmagi Lagazauri was to wrestle in this weight class. He participated in voting but he got injury and was taken from the tournament wrap several hours before the start of the championship.
Yesterday, champions and prize winners among men were found out in 55 kg. Two Georgians wrestled on tatami but both of them lost in the first stage. Otar Kaidarashvili started competition successfully. He beat Mongolian Khuntiaj Enkhbaatar within 37 seconds. But he lost against Brazilian Sergio Nascimento.
Lukhum Chkhvimiani beat Luxembourger Tom Schmit by ippon. He lost against Azerbaijani Ali Rzayev by waza-ari.
Toru Shishime became champion in 60 kg. He beat Kazakh Ilyas Izmagilov in the final. Kazakh-Japanese final was held in 55 kg and Kazakh Yeldos Smetov won gold medal.
On the first day of the championship winners were found out among girls. Japanese final was held in 48 kg.
Today, champions and prize winners will be found out in 2-2 weight classes among girls and boys. Lasha Lominadze, Lasha Shavdatuashvili (both 66 kg), Zebeda Rekhviashvili and Lasha Zurabiani (73 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
Lomidze will wrestle against Lebanese Visam Hayek, Shavdatuashvili will wrestle against Tunisian Housem Khalafauy, Rekhviashvili - agains Cypriot Kleovulos Lukaidis, Zurabiani - against German Alexander Wieczerzak. Matches will be held at 13:00 Tbilisi time.
