Arabidze Keeps Chance of Championship

 

 

Georgian chess player Meri Arabidze (2379) celebrated very important victory in the eighth round of World Youth Championship, ongoing in the capital of Greece, Athens. As a result she keeps real chance of winning gold medal.
In the last round N0.5 seed Meri Arabidze defeated No.8 seed Yue Wang (China, 2355) with black pieces and gained 6.0 points. She is 0.5 point behind leader Nastasya Ziazulkina (Belarus, 2342). Arabidze, who is in the fifth round according to her additional points, plays against Romanian Irina Bulmaga (2380) with white pieces in the next round.
Another Georgian participant of the tournament Nani Unapkoshvili (2011) is in the 50th place with 3.0 points. As for men, Shalva Nadirashvili (2151) and Dimitri Kvaratskhelia (2093) are in the 82th and 84th places with 3.5-3.5 points.

World Junior Championships are based on Swiss system. The last round will be held on August 15.
