For several weeks Georgian tennis player Anna Tatishvili has been moving forward step by step in WTA ranking. In a renewed ranking, Georgian best tennis player is in the 73rd place with 834 points which is her highest ranking.
22-year-old Tatishvili is in California and will play in Indian Wells. Prize money of American tournament is 5 536 664 USD. Georgian tennis player will start participation from the qualifying draw.
Anna needs to win two matches to go through the main draw. No.4 seed Tatishvili will play against Misaki Doi of Japan. 20-year-old Japanese who is in the 127th place (she reach her highest ranking – 103rd place last August) will play against Tatishvili for the first time. If Tatishvili overcomes the first round, she will play against winner between Laura Robson of Britain and Casey Dellacqua of Australia. 48 tennis players will participate in the qualifying draw. Only 12 of them will play in the main draw.
Matches of 2012 BNP Paribas Open will start this evening.
The match between Tatishvili and Doi will be held on the fourth court and it will start at 22:00 Tbilisi time. Georgian tennis player participated in Indian Wells last year though in the first round of the qualifying draw she was losing 3:6, 6:3, 0:4 to Laura Pous Tio of Spain when Anna retired. So, in case of victory Anna will earn points.
20 rating points are for going through the final of the qualifying draw. Winner of the draw will gain 30 points. It is known that Top 9 of WTA ranking will compete in 2012 BNP Paribas Open. Champion of the tournament will earn 1000 (!) points and 700 000 USD.
Maka Chakhnashvili, Sofia Shapatava, Sofia Kvatsabaia and Ekaterine Gorgodze are in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA. Gorgodze who is in the qualifying draw of the tournament (25 000 USD) beat Karina Rovira of USA 6:2, 6:0 and will play against another hostess Nicole Robinson. No.11 seed Kvatsabaia will play against Gaia Sanesi of Italy. Chakhnashvili and Shapatava will start participation from the main draw. Cleopatra Karumashvili played in the qualifying draw of Antalya tournament (10 000 USD). She lost 1:6, 3:6 to Giovanna Tomita of Brazil.
