Anna Tatishvili went through the 1/8 final of US Open first time in her career and it goes without saying that it is a big success for Georgian player. After French Stefane Foretz Gacon, Romanian Sorana Kirstea and Mandy Minella of Luxembourg Anna played against No.1 seed of the world Viktoria Azarenka and honorably lost with Belarusian player, who is the leader of the tournament. Tatishvili lost two sets in the match which was held at “Lui Armstrong Stadium” court 2:6, 2:6 but it is newsworthy that in some moments she was showing a strong resistance against Azarenka and at the beginning of the second set even managed to equalize (2:2 after 4-4 games in both matches). Then it seemed that Tatishvili got tired, high-class of Azarenka played its role in this match and took Belarusian player to quarter-final. The match lasted for one hour and 23 minutes, during this match Azarenka and Tatishvili had 3 breaks. In quarter-final Azarenka plays against Samanta Storus active champion of US Open women single tournament.
Tatishvili’s competition at Flashing Meadow courts was very successful. As a result of going through the 1/8 final Anna earned 280 points and will advance in ranking.
