“Academy” of Tbilisi became champion of Georgian 7s Rugby Championship 2012. This club won only the final stage, but “Lelo” which won the second stage took the fifth place in the 3rd stage and “Academy” overtook them with two points.
“Armia” winner of Georgian 7s Rugby Championship 2011 did not participate in the tournament this year. The first stage was held in the middle of June and 12 clubs participated in it. In the final of Cup, ‘Lelo” won over “Academy” 27:12, the clubs from Kutaisi were fighting for the third place and finally “Aia” beat “Bagrati” 12:5. “Lokomotivi” took the fifth place, which beat “Batumi” 19:5.
One month later, in the final of the second stage “Lelo” beat “Lokomotivi” 40:0 and “Academy” took the thir place as a result of beating “Batumi” 31:12. For the fifth place fight “IliaUny Jiki” beat “Aia” 12:10.
In the third stage, “Lelo” could not manage to go through the semi-final of Cup, it appeared to be decisive, “Lelo” lost with “Aia” 14:19, won over “Batumi” 7:5, as for “Batumi” they managed to beat only “Aia” 14:12. These clubs gained the same amount of points and “Aia” and “Batumi” continued fighting for the Cup.
In the second group, “Academy” played draw with “IliaUny” (5:5), but ‘Academy” won all the rest matches and took the first place. In the semi-final, “Academy” beat “Batumi” 21:0 and “Aia” beat “Lokomotivi” 19:14. “Lelo” which stayed beyond the semi-final beat “Bagrati” (27:0) and then “Kochebi” (22:7) and finally took the fifth place. “Lokomotivi” after beating “Batumi” 26:5 took the third place, as for the final, “Academy” won “Aia” 12:7 and became winner.
Now, rugby players will rest, they will prepare and on September 1 will start competition in Georgian 15s Rugby Championship, which will be held with new system (Fall-Spring).
