Varlam Liparteliani Is World No.1 Judoka

Varlam Liparteliani (100 kg), member of the Georgian judo team, is a leader of world ranking. The 28-year-old judoka finished Dusseldorf Grand Slam without a single loss and earned 1000 ranking points along with gold medal.

Liparteliani was No.1 seed at the tournament. The Georgian defeated Faruh Bulekulov of Kyrgyzstan, Laurin Boehler of Austria, Otgonbaatar Lkhagvasuren of Mongolia and Toma Nikiforov of Belgium. In final Varlam Liparteliani beat Benjamin Fletcher of Ireland in two minutes.

Georgia had only 7 judokas at Dusseldorf Grand Slam. Lukhum Chkhvimiani (60 kg) won bronze medal and earned 500 ranking points. The following judokas wrestled unsuccessfully: Tamaz Kirakozashvili, Koba Mchedlishvili (both 81 kg), Lasha Taveluri (100 kg), Adam Okruashvili and Levan Matiashvili (both +100 kg).
