New Triumph of Freestyle Wrestling Team

The Georgian freestyle wrestling team won two gold medals at World Championship for the first time in history of independent Georgia. After Geno Petriashvili’s (125 kg) triumph, Zurab Iakobishvili (65 kg) won gold medal. Giorgi Iantbelidze’s team finished World Championship with three medals. Vladimer Khinchegashvili (61 kg) won bronze medal.

Zurab Iakobishvili beat Bajrang Bajrang of India (6:5), Mustafa Kaya of Turkey (12:6), Alan Gogaev of Russia (3:3) and Magomedmurad Gadzhiev of Poland (3:1).

Champions and prize winners were also revealed in other three weight categories. Zurab Erbotsonashvili (70 kg) and Elizbar Odikadze (97 kg) took the fifth place.

Erbotsonashvili defeated Hairi Hairi of China (11:0). In ¼ final he fell to James Malcolm Green of USA (2:3). In repechage Zurab won over Nestor Joaquin Tafur Barrios of Colombia (7:6) but then failed to Yuhi Fujinami of Japan (0:11).

Elizbar Odikadze (97 kg) beat Pavlo Oliinyk of Ukraine (8:0) but in ¼ final he lost to Abdulrashid Sadulaev of Russia (10:0). In repechage the Georgian defeated Reineris Salas Perez of Cuba (8:6) but then fell to Georgii Ketoev of Armenia (2:2).

Jumber Kvelashvili (74 kg) also wrestled in the name of Georgia but he lost the first meeting to Bekzod Abdurakhmonov of Uzbekistan (0:10).

The Georgian freestyle wrestling team took the third place.
