13 Georgians Wrestle at "Poor" "Grand Prix"

Baku will host “Grand Prix” on May 5-6. Georgian delegation will leave for Azerbaijan with those candidates of the team who do not participate in preparation process for London Olympic Games. Peter Seisenbacher, head coach of Georgian judo team, gathered main judokas of the team at training-center of International Judo Federation in Algeria this morning. Iveri Jikurauli took the team to Baku.

10 men and 3 women will wrestle at “Grand Prix” in the name of Georgia. Giorgi Brolashvili and Giorgi Mesablishvili will wrestle in 60kg, Shalva Kardava and Sandro Iakobashvili – in 66kg, Zebeda Rekhviashvili and Ambako Avaliani – in 73kg, Lasha Zurabiani – in 81kg, Zviad Gogochuri – in 90kg, Beka Berdzenishvili and Aleksandre Mskhaladze – in 100kg. Georgian team will not have a participant in heavyweight. Here is the list of women’s team: Mariam Janashvili (57kg), Shorena Sharadze (70kg) and Irine Leonidze (+78kg).

Considering that three months are left till Olympic Games, no one expected titled sportsmen to arrive in Azerbaijan but such small number of participants was surprising. 69 judokas of 12 countries will wrestle in all 7 weight classes of men. 27 are from the host team.

Champions of “Grand Prix” will earn 200 points, silver medal winners – 120 points, bronze medal winners – 80 etc. Judokas who lose the first round will not gain a point.
