Three Times in a Row - Geno Petriashvili Is a World Champion!

Geno Petriashvili (125 kg) is a world champion three times in a row! Petriashvili beat Taha Akguel of Turkey in final of World Freestyle Wrestling Championship. It is the first gold medal of Georgia at the current championship.

Before the final, Geno defeated Egzon Shala of Kosov (13:2), Badzha Khutaba of Syria (14:4) and Aleksander Khotsianivski of Ukraine (6:2).

Irakli Mtsituri won bronze medal in 92 kg. The Georgian beat Nurgali Nurgaipuly of Kazakhstan 2:1 in bronze final. Before that, Mtsituri defeated Bendeguez Toth of Hungary 8:0 and Takuma Otsu of Japan 5:0. But in semifinal he lost to Michael Cox of the United States of America (0:3).

Zurab Iakobishvili (70 kg) was close to winning a bronze medal but the Georgian fell to Magomedmurad Gadzhiev of Poland. Before that, Iakobishvili beat Mihail Sava of Moldova 2:1 and then failed to David Baev of Russia 0:7. In repechage the Georgian defeated two opponents – Andrey Karpach of Belarus 5:0 and Ikhtiyor Navruzov of Uzbekistan 4:1.

Nika Kenchadze (79 kg) lost the first meeting. He fell to Grigor Grigoryan of Armenia (6:7).

Sandro Aminashvili (86 kg) beat Georgios Savoulidis of Greece 9:0 but in 1/16 final he failed to Javral Shafiev of Uzbekistan (3:6).

As a result, Georgia has two medals (gold-bronze) in freestyle wrestling
