Okruashvili's Bronze Crown

Georgian judo team ended up the World Championship 2015 with two medals. Yesterday, Varlam Liparteliani (90 kg) gained bronze and today Adam Okruashvili (+100 kg) gained the same.

Okruashvili lost to Japan Ryu Shichinohe in semifinal and lost the chance of gold. Before this meeting, he won over Polish Maciej Sarnacki, in 1/8 final beat Czech Michal Horak and in ¼ final overcame German Sven Heinle.

In repechage final, Okruashvili faced German Andre Breitbarth, beat him and occupied the third place with 200 ranking points.

Today, another heavyweight of the Georgian team Levan Matiashvili (+100) involved in the competition and lost to Cuban Alex Garcia Mendoza.

Georgian team took the 7th place among 113 countries in the unofficial men’s team standings.

Tomorrow, World Teams Championship will take place and the teams of 14 countries will be involved in the competition. Georgia will open the competition by facing Tunisia. In case of victory, Georgian judokas will wrestle against the best between Mongolia and Cuba and in semifinal among Russia, France or South Korea.

Preliminary stage meetings will start at 08:00 am Tbilisi time.
