Davit Targamadze: "I Do not Want to Risk My Life"

Davit Targamadze, midfielder of the Georgian national football team, told “World Sport” he wants to play for “Illichivets” but he is afraid of departing for Mariupol due to the recent events.

- Why did not you go to the club?

- Nowadays Mariupol is the epicenter of the events. Curfew hours are announced in the city. I have a Georgian passport and I might not be able to enter the city because only Ukrainian citizens are allowed to enter. In my place, every normal person would have done the same. I am in Tbilisi for 4 days and I cannot go. Besides me, 7 football players did not arrive in Mariupol. They live in different cities of Ukraine. I understand them because everybody has families and nobody wants to risk life.

- Head coach of “Illichivets” stated Jaba Kankava arrived in Dnipropetrovsk and you did not arrive in Mariupol.

- Kankava lives in Dnipropetrovsk and it is quiet there. If the club moves to other city, I have no problem. I will buy ticket and go.

- So, you do not know when you will return to Ukraine?

- I talk to the heads of the club every day. I told them if the club moves to other city, I will arrive. Now I do not want to take a risk.

- First of all, it disturbs you. Moreover, the national team will hold two Euro 2016 qualifying matches in October…

- I am trying to keep fit. If the club does not change the city, I might break loan contract with “Illichivets”. My manager is working on it and let us see what will happen. I have contract with “Shakhtar” and I must clarify issue with this club. I really do not like that I am here and the club in Mariupol.

- How do you think would draw have been logical draw with Ireland?

- Yes but unfortunately, we lost due to our own mistakes. We are playing home and we must not have lost that game.
