After a 34-year pause Georgian judoka made through to final of the Jigoro Kano Memorial. In 1982 Davit Bodaveli (86 kg) became champion at the super tournament. Now Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg) was close to the title but lost.

The Georgian heavyweight failed to Renat Saidov of Russia in the final. Matiashvili won silver medal and earned 300 ranking points.

Before the final Levan Matiashvili defeated four rivals – Stanislav Bondarenko of Ukraine, Ushangi Kokauri of Azerbaijan, Keita Iwao of Japan and Takeshi Ojitani of Japan

Today champions and prize winners were also found out in 90 and 100 kg. Varlam Liparteliani and Beka Gviniashvili (both 90 kg) wrestled in the name of Georgia.

Liparteliani beat Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain, Mammadali Mehdiyev of Azerbaijan but then lost to Kenta Nagasawa of Japan. In repechage semifinal the Georgian failed to Mashu Baker of Japan. Finally, Liparteliani took the 7^th place.

Beka Gviniashvili won over Kamoliddin Kholmamatov of Uzbekistan but then failed to Alexandre Iddir of France.

The Georgian team finished participation in Tokyo Grand Slam with one silver and one bronze medal. Our team took the 4^th place.
