For the First Time - Nana Lost, Maia Won

 

Georgian chess player Nana Dzagnidze (2550) lost the first match and leadership at the last stage of FIDE Grand Prix which is underway in the capital of Qatar, Doha.

Dzagnidze lost against Ecuadorian Martha Fierro Baquero (2363) with black pieces. In the first round, Baquero beat Chen Zhu (2363) who is competing in the name of Qatari. Baquero is in the 2nd place with 2.0 points.

Dzagnidze has 2.0 points too. She is in the 3rd place. Armenian Elina Danielyan (2454) is leading the tournament. She celebrated the 3rd victory in a row over Mongolian Batkhuyag Munguntuul (2410).

Maia Chiburdanidze (2502) won the first match at Qatari tournament. Legendary chess player beat Chinese Yuhua Xu (2484) with white pieces and is in the 9th place with 1.0 points among 12 participants.

Today, in the 4th round, Dzagnidze will play against Danielyan with white pieces. Chiburdanidze will play against another Armenian Lilit Mkrtchyan (2475) with black pieces.

Winner of each FIDE Grand Prix stage wins 6 500 EUR. The best player wins 15 000 EUR. The match against current world champion Yifan Hou is planned at the end of the year.
