European Youth Championship in chess started in Batumi Drama Theatre. Recall that European Championship is held in 6 age categories (8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18) in 12 rounds.

Levan Kipiani, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, President of the European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili, President of the Georgian Chess Federation Giorgi Giorgadze and representatives of Adjara Government attended the opening ceremony and delivered speech to participant.

Foreign participants of the European Championship were particularly impressed by the choreographic ensemble “Khorumi”, Batumi Ballet School’s students and the children body “Limpopo”.

For instance, the parties start at 15:00 every day. Hotels “Sheraton” and “Inturist” host the competition. In the first round 1000 youngsters of 45 countries were involved and 140 of them represented Georgia.
