Bekauri is World Champion, Chanturia Gained Bronze

The Georgian anthem was played at Judo Cadet World Championship in Santiago, Chile. This morning, Lasha Bekauri (73 kg) gained gold medal and Mariam Chanturia (63 kg) – bronze. Recall that on the first day of the Championship, Luka Kapanadze (55 kg) gained silver medal.

Lasha Bekauri was involved in the competition from the second round and overcame Diord Nerpel of Hungary. In the third meeting, he defeated Armen Agaian of Russia. Before this meeting the Georgian defeated Marcelo Gomes of Brazil.

In semifinal, Bekauri won over Adam Stodolski of Poland and Daiki Nakahashi of Japan.

As for Mariam Chanturia, she defeated Javiera Munoz of Chile and Erica Paccione of America and in ¼ final lost to Ayano Iuki of Japan.

Chanturia made through to repechage and on the bronze way defeated Cindy Mera of Colombia and Su Yon Kim of South Korea.

Two more Georgians were involved in the competition yesterday. Gocha Gvachliani and Vladimer Akhalkatsi lost the chance in the morning program.

This night Mikheil Bekauri, Giorgi Kariauli (both – 90 kg), Aleksi Svianadze, Levan Chelidze (both - +90 kg) and Sophio Somkhishvili (+70 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
